MOSCOW 16 October 2018 – Highlighting cultural cooperation between the Philippines and Russia, the Philippines was featured during the opening of the “Golden Autumn Festival”, Moscow’s main fair for the fall season on 28 and 29 September 2018.
The Philippine Embassy in Moscow occupied a prime-location cottage to showcase Philippine food, beverage and fashion accessories.
These included product samples provided by the Department of Agriculture which have been identified for export to Russia, as well as handmade fashion accessories provided by the International Bazaar Foundation headed by Madame Maria Laarni Cayetano. Russian importers of mango and coconut based products also participated.
“We are pleased to have this opportunity to showcase our world-class products and diverse culture to the people of Moscow,” said Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta.
“We are thankful to the Department of Agriculture, Mayor Lani Cayetano, and our private sector partners for their support to our efforts,” he added.
The Philippine Embassy Cultural Performance Group, composed of volunteer OFWs, impressed locals with their performances of Philippine folk dances and songs during the opening ceremony. They also taught festival-goers how to dance the “Tinikling” during a short masterclass.
“We had an excellent experience working with the City Government during the first Philippine Street Festival in Moscow in August 2016 so we were pleased when they invited us to collaborate again. Autumn is associated with the time of harvest in Russia so the theme fits our goal of promoting our food exports and handicrafts,” said Embassy Economic Section Head Jeffrey Valdez.
Products from companies were featured in the Philippine cottage such as virgin coconut oil and skimmed coconut milk powder from CocoPlus Corp., muscovado sugar from Alter Trade Corp., chili garlic sauce from AG Gray’s Farm, extra premium lambanog from Philippine Craft Distillers, Guzto banana chips from Propack Asia Corp., Mama Sita’s mixes and sauces from Marigold Manufacturing Corp., pickled mango from Sankutsa Foods, chichacorn from Ilocos Foods, calamansi extract from Mapaghmahal Foods, turmeric tea from Jedidah Foods, handwoven scarves from Chill by Nooks, clutch bags from Beatriz, coffee beans from Aponi Bayosa, handbags from y_cell, dark chocolate from Malagos Chocolate, mango products from 7D Mangos, and coconut flour and sugar from MyNewFood.
