The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo commemorated the 75 years of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Honduras in a ceremony and simple reception held at its chancery on 09 July 2021.

The ceremony was highlighted by the broadcast of special video messages from the Foreign Ministers of the Philippines and Honduras. In his video message, Secretary of Foreign Affairs Teodoro L. Locsin Jr., emphasized how the nexus of commonalities of the two countries can be translated into opportunities for cooperation, particularly in the areas of climate change adaptation, risk reduction, migration management and sustainable development.

Honduran Foreign Minister Lisandro Rosales Banegas, in his video message, recognized the gains from the exchanges of peoples between the two countries. He particularly cited how the Filipino scientists who visited Honduras in the 80’s helped Honduras in research and improved their banana production.

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Mission Robespierre L. Bolivar underscored the Philippines’ continued commitment to further cultivate relations with Honduras.

To mark the strength and longevity of the friendship of the two countries, Deputy Chief of Mission Bolivar and Honduran Non-Resident Ambassador to the Philippines Hector Alejandro Palma Cerna exchanged tokens and performed a ceremonial elbow-bump.

The Philippines and Honduras formally established their diplomatic relations on 05 July 1946. Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Demetrio R. Tuazon is accredited to Honduras as the Philippines’ Non-Resident Ambassador, while Ambassador Hector Alejandro Palma Cerna is accredited to the Philippines as Honduras’ Non-Resident Ambassador, with residence in Tokyo.
