The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority is encouraging the public to enroll in its new online course entitled “Practicing COVID-19 Preventive Measures in the Workplace” accessible through the TESDA Online Program (TOP).
The free, two-and-a-half-hour online course was originally intended for TESDA employees as part of the Agency’s precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus in the workplace. However, TESDA Secretary Isidro Lapeña directed to make it available as well to the public.
The said online course aims to enhance the knowledge, practices and attitude of the general public in preventing and controlling COVID-19 infection by practicing personal safety in the workplace and while traveling via public transportation.
“The course covers the COVID-19 signs and symptoms to look out for, the virus’s modes of transmission. It teaches safety protocols and self-protection practices and techniques to be observed, including those that are applicable in the workplace,” Lapeña said.
“We hope that by teaching Filipinos the basic science behind COVID-19, its effects and prevention, they will develop safety and hygiene habits so they will be more prepared in the ‘new normal’ daily setup,” he added.
A Certificate of Completion can be downloaded by completers who get at least 80% in the summative test at the end of the course.
Other free courses relevant to COVID-19 management are available through the TOP platform including COVID General Duties; COVID Awareness; Managing TVET During COVID-19; Learning Online During COVID-19; Teaching Online During COVID-19; Standard Precautions: Hand Hygiene; and, COVID-19: How to put on and remove personal protective equipment.
The courses relevant to COVID-19 management have been obtained from third parties and consolidated in the TOP to provide ease of access.
These are in addition to the 68 existing courses in the TOP platform available to all. The TOP can be accessed through the TESDA App (downloadable from Google Play and Apple Store) or through the e-TESDA Website (https://www.e-tesda.gov.ph).
The online courses are made available for public consumption as part of OPLAN TESDA Abot Lahat: Towards the New Normal, the Agency’s main strategic plan to cope with and recover from the effects of the pandemic, and is in line as well with the directive of Secretary Lapeña to intensify the Agency’s efforts in implementing more health-related training programs.
