The Philippine Navy (PN) facilitated on June 17, the transport to their respective provinces of Filipino repatriates from India and Sri Lanka who just arrived in the country onboard BRP Davao Del Sur (LD602).
These repatriates considered as returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs) already finished the required quarantine period aboardship and were tested negative of coronavirus in the swab testing conducted upon their arrival.
The transportation of some repatriates from LD602 moored at Pier 15 in South Harbor, Manila was in coordination with their local government units. One of the repatriates was brought to Villamor Airbase in Pasay City to take the sweeper flight of Philippine Air Force’s C-130 aircraft to Davao City while another one was taken to the airport for a commercial flight also to Davao. Others were fetched by their relatives.
These Filipino tourists and workers stranded overseas due to travel restrictions spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic, were accommodated by LD602 during the Naval Task Force’s humanitarian mission in the Middle East. Decent accommodations and proper assistance were provided to them as they underwent quarantine in isolated sections of the ship. They were also given counseling and physical activities to uplift their morale and well-being in the entirety of the journey.
Some of the repatriates expressed their gratitude and admiration to the Philippine government for having a Navy that can come to their aid even when abroad. They praised
the professionalism and respectfulness of the crew who “made the repatriation possible and comfortable”.
It manifests the holistic brand of service the PN can render to our fellow Filipinos especially in this time of crisis.
